Is it really necessary to have a Fransat receiver?

Messagepar Frequentflyer » 30 Oct 2012 10:56

Bonjour tous le monde.

Desole mais je ne parle bien Francais. C'est pour ca j'ai besoin de Fransat!

I hope somebody can help me with this:

I live in Portsmouth England. I have a Vu+ Duo and my 80cm dish has a monobloc LNB for Hotbird 13E and Astra 19.2E.

My Vu+ Duo has a Viaccess Cam.

Can I view the Fransat channels on my existing equipment if I get a Fransat card for the Viaccess CAM?

Merci

Richard

Hello Richard and welcom to the forum :P
On Astra 19,2° East you need "TNTSAT" special demodulator
To use FRANSAT you need to have parabola on satellite AB3 at 5° West and "FRANSAT" demodulator

You can NOT use your equipement because of protected encrypted system needs dedicated receiver
labellised sold with its own special card

Hi Frequentflyer,
Welcome on the TVNT.net forum :!:
I will try to answer your question, if it's not clear enough don't hesitate to ask for further clarifications.

Firstly you cannot receive FRANSAT on Astra nor Hotbird, it's broadcast on Eutelsat 5WA at 5°W, so you would have to reposition your dish.

However what you could receive on 19.2°E (Astra) is TNTSAT, which is a competitor service to FRANSAT which also broadcasts the channels of the french TNT. Both services (Fransat and TNTSAT) require a specific receiver as both use a (different) special version of Viaccess with a surencryption which is not supported by standard Viaccess receivers or CAMs.
TNTSAT receivers can now work with multiple LNBs (up to 4) however Astra must be in DiSEqC position 1 (or A) as these receivers start on this position at switching on, and if they don't find the startup transponder (which indicates SW updates and changes to the channel list), they refuse to go further.
So you would have either to modify your antenna in order to have Astra at DiSEqC position 1 or have the TNTSAT receiver connected behind your VU+ receiver which would control the monobloc on an Astra channel in high band and vertical polarisation (all TNTSAT channels are in this band and polarisation).
TNTSAT is in fact a part of Canal+/Canalsat and TNTSAT receivers are now "Canal Ready" so they can be used to receive them by just exchanging the TNTSAT card by a Canal+/Canalsat "carte seule" card.
